The young Kunio will step into the shoes of General Guan Yu in this new installment. Arc System Works plans to keep the parodic spirit of River City Saga: Three Kingdoms by twisting historical events for comedic effect. The game will cover iconic moments such as the Battle of Wuzhang Plains, the final stage of strategist Zhuge Liang’s northern campaigns, as the formidable Cao Cao (portrayed by Yamada) bolsters his forces. Over 100 characters from various Kunio-kun games will make an appearance.
Revved Up for Action
In terms of gameplay, River City Saga: Three Kingdoms Next will build on its predecessor by introducing the option to ride Lièvre Rouge, the fearsome steed of Lu Bu—now reimagined as a biker’s motorcycle. Kunio will still be able to run over foes trying to block his path. Arc System Works also hints at the ability to find new parts to customize Lièvre Rouge, potentially transforming it into a futuristic hoverbike, according to the first trailer. The official announcement also mentions a new super-tactic that will call upon fellow generals to help clear out enemy troops alongside you.
