Announced in 2021, the Driver TV series was set to follow secret agent John Tanner, a former race car driver determined to serve his country by taking down a group of criminals behind the wheel of a 70’s muscle car. However, the production company dedicated to the project, Hotrod Tanner LLC, quietly shut down in January. Ubisoft confirmed to Game File that the TV series is heading to the scrapyard with no hope of revival.
Green Light! A spokesperson clarified that the Driver franchise is still alive. Ubisoft is “actively working on other projects related” to the urban saga, without specifying whether it might be a new game or another derivative product. The franchise has been dormant since 2011 with the release of Driver: San Francisco. In that installment, special agent Tanner was in a deep coma, imagining the ability to jump from one car to another with the press of a button to perform the most eccentric car stunts.
