SpongeBob SquarePants Set to ‘Deliver’ Sweet Victory as Nickelodeon Super Bowl Broadcast Opener.

February 1, 2024

Sorry, Patrick. Football is not an instrument.

Prepare for a wave of nostalgia as SpongeBob SquarePants and friends gear up to “perform” their iconic song, Sweet Victory, during Super Bowl LVIII.

CBS Sports’ X/Twitter account announced that viewers tuning in to Nickelodeon for Super Bowl LVIII will enjoy an animated CGI performance of Sweet Victory before the kickoff, as revealed in a snippet from CBS Sports.

For those unfamiliar with this beloved performance, Sweet Victory originally featured in Season 2 of SpongeBob SquarePants in an episode titled “Band Geeks.” In the storyline, SpongeBob and other Bikini Bottom residents join a band led by Squidward, culminating in a memorable performance during the fictional Bubble Bowl.

Fans have long clamored for Sweet Victory to be part of a Super Bowl spectacle. Following the passing of SpongeBob SquarePants creator Stephen Hillenburg, a petition on Change.org emerged, advocating for the song’s inclusion during Super Bowl LIII as a tribute to Hillenburg. Although the song wasn’t played during the game, it did receive acknowledgment in the halftime show.

Super Bowl LVIII, set to air on February 11, will feature the AFC’s Kansas City Chiefs defending their title against the NFC champions, the San Francisco 49ers. Alongside a kid-friendly broadcast on Nickelodeon, the game will be available on CBS, Paramount+, and NFL+. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 pm PT / 6:30 pm ET.
